A recent meeting held at Mkoba 1 recognized the hard work and commitment of ward structure committees in a membership drive aimed at strengthening the Gweru Residents and Ratepayers Association (GRRA).
Leaders from across Gweru gathered to celebrate the achievements of these grassroots champions, who have been actively mobilizing residents to join forces for improved service delivery and community development.
In particular, Ward 11, under the leadership of Chairperson Florence Danha, emerged as the standout performer. Acknowledging her team’s dedication, Dube emphasized the collective nature of the effort, saying:
“GRRA has been instrumental in my efforts to recruit more residents into the Association. This collaboration allows us to speak with one voice when advocating for essential services such as clean water, waste management, and better roads. It also provides us with an empowering platform to enhance our capacity for local governance issues. I firmly believe that when residents unite and understand their role in development, they can effectively influence policies that shape their daily lives.
I have not only won this award on my behalf, but on behalf of every resident in Ward 11. Together, we have made it a priority to bring together women, men, and youth, ensuring that everyone has a seat at the table. This inclusive approach strengthens our advocacy, as we each bring unique perspectives and experiences.
I particularly urge young people in Gweru to join the Association and be active participants in shaping their destinies. The youth are not only the future, but they also possess invaluable energy and innovation that can drive our communities forward. When we stand united, we can restore the pride of Gweru and work hand in hand to build a community we can all be proud of.”
Runners up, including Ward 12 Chairperson Joyce Njanike and Woodlands Chairperson Andrew Zihapa, also commended the efforts of the ward structure committees.
They highlighted how a well-organized and motivated community is better positioned to voice its concerns, influence council decisions, and hold leaders accountable.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthen ties among wards throughout Gweru.
Through collaborative forums and continued membership drives, the GRRA aims to ensure that every resident, regardless of background or age, has the knowledge and opportunity to shape local governance.
By recognizing and rewarding the efforts of dedicated committees, the Association reinforces the message that sustainable development is achieved through collective effort, open dialogue, and community-led initiatives.
