Effective local governance thrives on robust collaboration between residents’ associations and local authorities. In Gweru, Zimbabwe, the Gweru Residents and Ratepayers Association (GRRA) exemplifies this synergy, working alongside the Gweru City Council (GCC) to promote transparency, accountability, and improved service delivery.

The alliance between GRRA and local authorities has led to impactful community projects. For instance, in March 2024, GRRA and the Gweru City Council launched a disability desk to improve access to services for people with disabilities. This initiative demonstrates a shared commitment to inclusivity and responsive governance.

GRRA’s efforts have also focused on addressing service delivery challenges. By facilitating dialogue between residents and the city council, GRRA has contributed to improved waste management, water supply, and infrastructure maintenance.
